5 Tips for Effective Pinterest Marketing

Pinterest has already grown into one of the biggest Social Media giants and will continue to do so for many years to come. Many businesses are already harnessing the power of this platform to increase their online influence. Everyone from an individual blogger to a large firm can use this social network to grow online and increase their revenue.

Here are 5 tips that can help you get more out of your Pinterest Marketing efforts-

1. Fill the Description Boxes

This is an obvious one but is often misunderstood. Just filling all the blanks on your profile is not what you should be doing. Instead focus on the keywords related to your business. Add what your website is all about in your profile’s description area. You can connect your Facebook (cannot connect a Facebook Page) and Twitter profile on your profile as well. Fill out the descriptions on your pins and boards as well.

Having a nicely filled profile will help it rank better in Pinterest and Google search results. Also, the nicely described pins with proper use of hashtags will rank better in the Pinterest search.

2. Following the Right People

Following other profiles on Pinterest

Creating a profile and adding pins won’t help you much or not at all if you don’t have an audience to like and repin your content. While you continue to optimize your profile with new content, keep following people in your domain and repin their content. This way you help someone gain more visibility on Pinterest and will start getting the same in return. Keep posting high quality pins and keep following users with similar interests and you will see more and more relevant users visiting your website from your Pinterest account.

3. Pin What People Love

Topics on Pinterest

After creating your account, you may be tempted to add images from your website to your Pinterest profile but doing so will tell your potential followers that you are here only to promote your business resulting in less or no followers. So my advice will be to not add anything at all from your website until you have a well formed profile with pins from some popular categories like Health, Wedding, Photography, Architecture, etc. After that you can add content from your website but keep it to minimum to avoid losing your followers. Owning a business related to any of the popular categories on Pinterest can be extremely beneficial. Let’s say you have a business that makes wedding websites, you can create a board named ‘Ideas for a Wedding Website’ and add pins both from your website and around the Internet to build trust and get traffic for your website. You can keep the board limited to the pins from your own website in case you have abundance of quality content on your site.

4. Participating in Group Boards

Using Group Boards for Pinterest Marketing

Over time, you may start receiving a lot of requests from Pinterest users to join their boards. Whether you should join the board or not, depends on you and the board. You can check these aspects before joining the board-
Is the board related to your niche?
Does it have high number of followers?
Are the pins containing high quality content?

If Yes is your answer to all these questions, then the board is worth following. You may join it otherwise as well but I will recommend against it as it will appear on your profile as one of your boards and may negatively impact your profile visitors. In case you joined the wrong one, you can leave it anytime.

5. Send the Pins

Do you know that you can send your pins to other users? However, you can only do it for the people whom you follow and they follow you back as well. If you have gained followers by using the strategy of following the people in your own niche, then you will have a lot of people to send the pins to. Notice the rocket symbol and ‘send’ on the pin? Click it and send to the people who you think will be interested in your content. It sends a notification to the user saying you have send them a pin and there is a high chance of them viewing it which increases the chances of getting it liked and repinned as well. Also, you can send the entire board or even the entire profile to other users as well. One really good use of this feature could be when you create a new profile for your business, you can send that profile to your friends on Pinterest to get the initial followers.

Send Pins to Fellow Pinterest Users

It’s a simple technique but can be very powerful and can result in a lot of repins. Make sure to share only great content and not to abuse this feature.

These are in no way the only techniques to drive in more visitors from your Pinterest profile, but is a good place to start. I’ll be happy to share a lot more about Pinterest marketing and how creative you can get with your profile in the future.
